Driving Safely

So you've passed your test and are looking forward to the freedom of your own car. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want and have no-one telling you what to do...

BUT...you do need to think seriously about your driving – especially when you've got others in the car with you.

Here are some road safety tips which should help you along the way:
  • WEAR YOUR SEATBELT – drivers and passengers in the front and back of the car
  • SPEED CONTROL – follow the speed limits and only overtake if totally safe
  • TIRED? – don't drive if you are tired and take breaks every two hours on long journeys
  • DRINK & DRUGS – 'just say no' to alcohol and drugs if driving
  • WATCH OUT FOR – pedestrians, people on bikes, horses and other road users
  • CHILL OUT – Don't get stressed when other road users make mistakes. Just keep calm and keep your distance
  • CONDITIONS – Take extra care at night and in bad weather
  • SIGHT – don't forget to wear your glasses or contact lenses if you need them for driving
  • PHONE – turn off your mobile when driving
  • DISTANCE – keep your distance behind other cars so you can brake in time, if necessary
  • CHECK YOUR CAR – check brakes, tyres, lights mirrors and windows before setting off
  • MUSIC – don't fiddle with your CD player or radio while driving
