So you've passed your test and are looking forward to the freedom of your own car. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want and have no-one telling you what to do...
BUT...you do need to think seriously about your driving – especially when you've got others in the car with you.
Here are some road safety tips which should help you along the way:

Here are some road safety tips which should help you along the way:
- WEAR YOUR SEATBELT – drivers and passengers in the front and back of the car
- SPEED CONTROL – follow the speed limits and only overtake if totally safe
- TIRED? – don't drive if you are tired and take breaks every two hours on long journeys
- DRINK & DRUGS – 'just say no' to alcohol and drugs if driving
- WATCH OUT FOR – pedestrians, people on bikes, horses and other road users
- CHILL OUT – Don't get stressed when other road users make mistakes. Just keep calm and keep your distance
- CONDITIONS – Take extra care at night and in bad weather
- SIGHT – don't forget to wear your glasses or contact lenses if you need them for driving
- PHONE – turn off your mobile when driving
- DISTANCE – keep your distance behind other cars so you can brake in time, if necessary
- CHECK YOUR CAR – check brakes, tyres, lights mirrors and windows before setting off
- MUSIC – don't fiddle with your CD player or radio while driving
